The Heart of Desire Discrepancy:
Clinical Pivots

Watch Martha roleplay in this unique
video training series

Have you ever wondered why it's so hard to get traction with significant desire impasses?

With polarized desire discrepancies, therapists often miss important therapeutic opportunities early in treatment. I want to help you get better results with less effort.

Watch me demonstrate my methods in a realistic roleplayed case. I’ll show you exactly how I join with both the lower and higher desire partners — honoring their differences while challenging them both, and helping them chart a new course together.

This is a one-of-a-kind training; you'll see exactly how I get traction so you can too.

What you get:

4-part video series:

In a series of bite-sized videos, I'll share four common pitfalls that therapists face when working with desire discrepancy — and what you can do instead.

> Discover THE most common misconception about desire discrepancy (Spoiler: it's something most of us were taught in therapy school — and it's dead wrong)

> Learn an essential early-treatment question that many therapists miss — and why it’s so important to ask

> Uncover "Durable Relationship Energy," a powerful reframe for disillusioned couples

> Gain a new way of thinking about porn, masturbation, and less-than-ideal behavior from higher-desire partners

Roleplay deep dive:

Intimacy Impasses and Desire Dilemmas: Facing the First Session

With this kind of case, your first session is critically important. Learn how to make a significant impact from the very start.

> Watch me roleplay working with each partner in the first session of a polarized desire discrepancy case

> Learn a practical tactic for challenging pressure for sex — without alienating your higher-desire client

> Learn how to avoid a key pitfall (missing or marginalizing asexuality) and find an appropriate treatment direction

> Discover the key goal-setting intervention that most therapists are missing — and learn how to identify a useful goal even when there’s a significant impasse between partners

> Come away with an understanding of the heart of a desire discrepancy case, and feel prepared to create a foundation for effective treatment

Plus:

> Full, carefully-edited transcripts for all video materials

> A quick reference guide so you can refresh your memory of the material at a glance

> 2 AASECT CEUs* following successful completion of a learning assessment + a certificate of completion and detailed syllabus

Meet your presenter

My name is Martha Kauppi. As an educator and AASECT-certified sex therapist, I’ve devoted my career to helping therapists, coaches, and other helping professionals build the skills they need to work effectively with sex issues and complicated relationship dynamics.

Recently, I asked thousands of therapists what kinds of cases they struggle with, and desire discrepancy was the top response, by far. I've dug deep, thinking about the underlying reasons therapists struggle with these cases. What I came up with: a process-based reframe to elevate your work, rather than a quick fix that won’t stick. I hope you’ll join me!
